Moenkopi Routes

Hopi for “place of running water”, Moenkopi is the formal name for the climbing area usually referred to as “Jacks”. Comprised of six distinct walls, Moenkopi offers over 200 routes with difficulties ranging from 5.5 to 5.13+.
You can easily climb here year round, but the best seasons, of course, are fall and spring. Spring runoff can cause the normally dry river bed to flow and usually begins in February or early March following a normal winter, peaks after a week or two, then begins to recede. If the Mogollon Rim receives little snow, chances are Jacks Canyon won’t flow.
The best walls during the hottest days of summer are Casino in the afternoon, Main Wall in the morning and Swiss Wall all day. If you are an early riser, you can get a lot of climbing in at Cracker Jack and Main Wall before retreating when they get full sun at 11:00.
In the winter, Casino is great in the morning and Cracker Jack is sunny from mid-morning on. Main Wall gets sun in the afternoon, but tends to be a bit cooler than the other walls.
